DURHAM (WTVD) -- Hundreds of mourners paid their respects Tuesday to the family of a Durham girl who died as a result of her injuries in a tragic traffic accident.

Police are calling Jeri Dee Quick's death an accident because the driver was neither speeding nor distracted behind the wheel. Investigators say the little girl darted in front of a moving car on Dearborn Drive. She was running to greet her father who had just arrived at their home.

The horrific accident unfolded in front her father Jerriminco Brooks who continues to make a plea for the public's help with funeral expenses. The outpouring of support has helped the family cope with their loss.

"It means the world to me," explained Brooks. "All these people responded to my baby. I don't have any words for it. Inside, it's just joy."

Brooks penned a poem in honor of his daughter and shared it with mourners at First United Antioch Baptist Church in Durham.

The family has set up a fund with Wells Fargo. Just go to any Wells Fargo Bank and ask for the Jeri Dee Quick Memorial Fund or click here for the gofundme link.
