RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A gas leak in Raleigh forced a road closure and evacuation on Friday morning.

Officials said it happened in the 1000 block of East Whitaker Mill Road. People in the immediate area were evacuated. The road was closed and railroad traffic in the area was stopped.

PSNC said sewer work was being done in the area when a small backhoe hit a two-inch line and ruptured it.

The leak was capped just after 11 a.m. Repairs began immediately after.
