Gas leak closes road in Zebulon

ZEBULON (WTVD) -- A major gas leak has closed Worth Hinton Road in Zebulon after police say construction crews hit a natural gas line Wednesday morning.

It happened around 8:30 a.m. when road construction crews on Worth Hinton Road hit the line close to Green Pace Road, on the west side of town.

No evacuations have been reported, but officials warned that residents would likely smell the natural gas odorant.

Zebulon emergency crews and Public Service NC Gas Company are assessing damage and working to repair the line. Officials said the damage would take most of the day to fix.

Worth Hinton Road is closed to all traffic. Police officers are directing traffic around the area.
