Getting your driver's license renewed is now easier

GARNER (WTVD) -- On Monday, Governor Pat McCrory announced you will now be able to renew your license online.

"I'm pleased to announce ... based on trial periods ... today full implementation of online driver's license renewal in NC," he said.

At the Garner DMV office, McCrory signed a bill allowing for DMV changes online. The move is meant to cut down on wait times at state DMV locations.

The governor showed models of the new driver's licenses - saying it will be durable and secure.

He also announced credit card machines will soon be available at DMV stations, and said there are more changes to come.

Garner's quote "unofficial mayor" - American Idol winner, country singer and Garner native Scotty McCreery - was also on hand for the announcement.
