9 year-old shot in face, teen injured in Henderson

HENDERSON, N.C. (WTVD) -- Authorities say a 9-year-old girl was shot in the face and an 18-year-old woman were injured in a shooting in Henderson early Monday morning.

Just after 12:20 a.m., the Henderson Police Department received a call about shots being fired at the Highland Green Apartments at 111 S. Pinkston Street.

While in route to the scene, officers learned the 9-year-old girl had been taken in a personal vehicle to a nearby hospital for injuries sustained in the shooting. At last check, she was undergoing surgery at Duke Hospital on her eye. Family members have identified her as Samaya Hargrove.

When police arrived at the scene, they found 18 year-old Aisha Taylor suffering from a gunshot graze to her arm. She was also taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police say a vehicle had pulled up to a group of people that were standing in front of the apartment complex and began firing a gun before driving away.

The incident is currently under investigation.

Tisha Bullock, the mother of the nine year old shot in the face, describes the car involved in the drive-by shooting as a gold Toyota Avalon.

"I am extremely distraught by the events that occurred and we will utilize all resources necessary to solve this heinous and reckless act of violence," Henderson Police Chief Marcus Barrow said in a statement. "I would hope the person responsible will have the fortitude to come forward once they discovered an innocent child was injured, but if not I am confident that this community will provide us with the information to bring this individual to justice."
