RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Raleigh's City Council is expected to vote Tuesday on a proposal to limit the size of grocery stores near residential neighborhoods.

The vote could impact the plans for a proposed Publix supermarket in north Raleigh.

Tweaks to the city's new zoning code could limit the size of grocery stores located near neighborhoods to 45,000 square feet.

Developers want the new Publix to be 50,000 square feet.

Potential neighbors have already made their feelings known at a citizen's advisory council meeting.

In June, hundreds of people who do not want the grocery store built at Falls of the Neuse and Dunn roads voiced their anger and frustration.

Many residents voted against the proposal to rezone the area for commercial use - citing traffic congestion and safety concerns.

"Nothing against the store coming in - but off of a main thoroughfare, not coming in on neighborhood street," resident Anna Mose said. "I also live on one of the neighborhood streets in the surrounding area."

The vote was not binding.

Now the results will be considered by Raleigh's City Council, who will take it in consideration as they vote on the rezoning plan.
