Guns found after teens killed in school bus crash in Robeson County
LUMBERTON, N.C. (WTVD) -- Authorities say four guns were found in the wreckage of a car after it plowed head on into a school bus in Lumberton Monday.
Three guns were found Monday, the fourth was discovered Tuesday.
Four teens were killed in the crash around 10:15 a.m. in the 2900 block of Wire Grass Road.
A spokesman with the State Highway Patrol said driver, 16-year-old Kadaufei Worley, was travelling at 80 miles per hour when the Nissan Maxima entered a curve and traveled into the path of the oncoming school bus.
The bus was not carrying any children, but a mechanic, who was taking the bus in for service, was seriously hurt.
The other dead teens were identified as Tylek McNair, 18; Kashawn Leonard, 19, of Fairmont, and Daylon Cummings, 14, of Rowland.
Prior to the crash, a spokesman with the North Carolina Highway Patrol said the car was reported as "suspicious" and followed by the driver who called authorities.
"There was a citizen that called about a suspicious vehicle that was behind the Nissan Maxima," said Lt. Jeff Gordon. "The sheriff's department was behind that vehicle. They went around the curve. The suspect vehicle was going at a high rate of speed, lost control, and then traveled into the lane of the school bus."
It's unclear why the caller thought the teens' car was suspicious, or what other factors led up to the accident. The Robeson County Sheriff's Office is investigating the events leading up to crash, while the State Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
