Lloyd Miller arrested after crashing police cruiser

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- A man in Fayetteville crashed a stolen police car while in handcuffs after being arrested for a domestic disturbance Friday evening.

Police said they responded to a call on Brocton Drive just before 11 p.m. They arrested 38-year-old Lloyd James Miller, handcuffed him, and placed him in the rear seat of the patrol car.

One officer went to investigate and talk to the woman while the other officer watched Miller. The second officer went to get a rain jacket out of the patrol car and saw Miller moving around in the backseat.

While still handcuffed, Miller managed to climb through the secured partition and took off with the car before officers could unlock it.

Authorities pursued but lost sight when he drove through a yard in the 200 block of Pierron Drive.

Police said Miller crashed into two vehicles at the intersection of Reilly Road and Cliffdale Road.

Miller jumped from the patrol car and ran on foot before being captured.

Officers said Miller also hit a car in the 900 block of Siesta Court.

None of the people in the vehicles hit were injured but Miller was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center with minor injuries.

Miller faces charges for domestic violence assault on a female, larceny of a motor vehicle, possession of stolen property, felony speeding to elude arrest, resist, delay, or obstruct, three counts of misdemeanor hit and run, failure to yield the right of way, and failure to stop at a red light.

Authorities said he may face charges for driving while impaired as well.

Miller is being held at the Cumberland County Detention Center on a $20,000 bond.

Anyone with information concerning the traffic crash is asked to contact Officer R. Sessoms with the Fayetteville Police Department's Traffic Unit at (910) 433-1653.
