Heavy rain closes campsites at Kerr Lake
VANCE COUNTY (WTVD) -- 150 campsites are closed at Kerr Lake because of high water and some boat docks are not usable.
"Yes, I did hear about that!" said Amy Garbooshian, one of the campers who visited the lake this weekend. "We were worried that we weren't going to be able to get on the boat dock today. But it looks like we're going to be okay!"
Steve Preddy camps by the water often and did not expect such a close lakefront view.
"I did not!" he said. "So that's pretty cool."
Not cool are cancellations for people who reserved campsites that are now under water.
"I happened to call last Wednesday because I was concerned I wouldn't be able to get on it," Preddy said. "And they said 'Yes, this site was still open.' So we were happy to know that!"
Preddy said he hoped that helps a friend who usually camps near him on the Kerr Lake shore.
"He had to cancel because the water was so high, so hopefully he'll be able to come next weekend!" Preddy said.
