Hero officer stops wrong-way driver
CONROE, TX -- A Texas police officer is being heralded for putting his police cruiser and life in the path of a speeding wrong-way driver.
Dash cam video shows the suspect stop just in time as Sergeant Gary Sharpen prepared for impact last Friday night on I-45 near Conroe.
"Those people were complete strangers to me, and knowing this guy was as reckless and as dangerous as he was, he needed to be stopped one way or another," said Sgt. Gary Sharpen with the Shenandoah Police Department. "If I'm put in that position again, I think I'll do the same."
After that, the driver turned around and fled. The suspect led multiple agencies on a high speed chase before the car was finally stopped.
Inside the vehicle, police discovered there were two small children, ages 18 months and 4 years old.
They were rescued unharmed.
