Judge rules in favor of Oakwood homeowners
A Wake County judge ruled Thursday in favor of the couple building a modern home in Raleigh's historic Oakwood neighborhood.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A Wake County judge ruled Thursday in favor of the couple building a modern home in Raleigh's historic Oakwood neighborhood.

Last year, Louis Cherry and Marsha Gordon received approval and the proper permits to build, but a neighbor who opposed the modern look of the house appealed causing construction to come to a halt.

"We hope that this legal battle is behind us. We now have the opportunity to focus on the things that make Oakwood the dynamic, diverse, and wonderful neighborhood that it is," said Cherry and Gordon in a statement. "We are now ready to move in and move on, and hope that our neighbors and neighborhood will join us."

Thursday's ruling could allow construction on the home to resume unless the neighbor appeals.

She has 30 days to do so.
