Knightdale residents dealing with overnight storm damage

KNIGHTDALE (WTVD) -- Storms really ramped up in parts of Wake County overnight after a mostly quiet day Tuesday.

The howling winds had people calling ABC11 asking if a tornado went through, but it did not.

One neighborhood in Knightdale is cleaning up after several trees were knocked down.

Fire crews had to be called out to remove fallen trees that blocked Old Knight Road in the Emerald Pointe subdivision.

Trees fell on at least five vehicles at the Acres of Space Mobile Home Park.

Rachel Jackson said she was in her SUV when a tree fell on it. A tree now sits on top of her vehicle, the windows are broken and the roof is caved in.

She explained she was returning home from work when the storm hit. She decided to wait it out in her vehicle in the driveway. But then she heard the tree collapse.

"The tree came down, glass shattered on my side of the car and this side of the car and then the windshield bridge came straight through, almost at my face," she said. "It was just chaos and very loud."

She only suffered a scratch on her hand.

Jatzael Jimenez also decided to wait out the storm in his driveway when he was returning home from church. A tree fell on his car.

"I thought the hail was gonna break the windows," he said. "But when the tree fell, my first thought was I'm dying."

Miraculously, Jimenez was not hurt. He says he usually reverses in the driveway. But for some reason, yesterday, he drove straight in. Much of the damage is to the back where he would have been.

"I just thank God that I'm alive today," he said.
