Family displaced by fire
A fire caused by lightning has displaced residents, including a Durham family of five.

Storms firing up overnight sparked lightning fires across the region.

A home on Wysteria Drive in Fuquay-Varina was hit, leaving plenty of damage behind, but no one was hurt.

Lightning is also being blamed for a couple of fires in Durham.

An apartment complex was struck on Rochelle Street, where some residents were forced out by flames.

Residents were evacuated from their units, and had to watch from the parking lot as firefighters checked for hot spots.

Then, at Calibre Park Way apartments it was a similar scene after one building sustained a hole in the roof from where lightning apparently hit and sparked a fire.

Residents there were also forced to leave their apartments as firefighters worked through the night.

The Red Cross is assisting victims who were displaced.
