LUMBERTON, N.C. -- A Lumberton man has died after struggling with two men who broke into his home early Tuesday.

Officers were called to the 100 block of Powhatan Drive, off Chicken Road, just after 2 a.m.

Milton Cummings, 57, was found dead in the home.

Robeson County Sheriff Kenneth Sealey would not say how Cummings died.

Sealey said two men wearing masks forced their way through the front door and went to Cummings bedroom where there was a fight. The sheriff said another man in the house struggled with the men briefly before they left.

Sealey said the victim's mother and a 7-year-old child in the house were not hurt.

The sheriff said an autopsy is planned to determine the cause of death.

No arrests have been made.
