RALEIGH (WTVD) -- The man facing charges in the 2013 stabbing death of Democrat fundraiser Jamie Hahn pleaded not guilty to all charges in court Wednesday.
Jamie Hahn, a rising star in state Democratic politics, was stabbed in her North Raleigh home on April 22, 2013 after she allegedly confronted Jonathan Broyhill about money missing from a congressional campaign.
According to an autopsy done by the state medical examiner, the 29-year-old was stabbed 24 times, which included wounds to her hands, arms, face, neck and back.
The most serious wounds were to her abdomen and chest. Those were so severe, according to the autopsy report, that they damaged her lung and liver. She died two days later at WakeMed.
Her husband, Nation Hahn, was wounded along his arms when he came to his wife's rescue. He has undergone surgery and physical therapy according to friends.
The prosecution asked the judge Wednesday to allow Nation in the courtroom for the entire trial.
"He is the sole eyewitness in the actual fatal attack on his wife Jaime," prosecutors said.
Broyhill, who was the best man in the couple's wedding, had admitted to being involved in the crime, according to a search warrant.
"The allegation that's been reported is that our client was embezzling funds from a campaign account belonging to a former US congressman by the name of Brad Miller and then using those funds for his own purpose," Broyhill's attorneys told the judge.
His attorney also asked the judge to bar electronic media coverage once the trial starts, but he denied that request.
Broyhill is facing first-degree murder charges, two charges of attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury.
His trial has been set for Feb. 23, 2015.
