CARY, N.C. (WTVD) -- The arrest of a Durham man has solved 14 Cary break-ins according to the town's police department. Maccos McDonald, 40, is charged with break-ins and burglaries mostly in the western area of the Wake County town.

Cary police have been investigating a rash of thefts along the Davis Drive corridor in and around the Preston development for weeks. As residents of one Preston neighborhood met with police about the crimes Sunday, McDonald was already in custody.

However, one victim said he believes more arrests are on the way. Sharyar Ahmed said he believes police tracked down McDonald after recovering Ahmed's iPad at a pawn shop. The Cary man said the crimes are unnerving, especially the break-in at his house.

"They've been watching us for a good amount of time. They knew we always go out on the weekends and that we weren't coming back any time soon. And for them to come break in the window from upstairs is very devastating. I mean, it just terrorized my wife," said Ahmed.

According to court documents, McDonald stole tens of thousands of dollars' worth of property in the break-ins including more than $57,000 in jewelry at one home alone. Arrest warrants show he also took electronics and even a handgun from homes.

All but one of the crimes McDonald is charged with happened in January. The other happened in early December. There were other break-ins in December. Cary police aren't saying how many but they are saying their investigation is not over.

McDonald is being held on a combined bond of $255,000.
