Man charged with setting fire to girlfriend's bed as she was lying in it
Michael Dwan Hall Jr.,26, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and first-degree arson.

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- A Cumberland County man is charged with setting fire to his girlfriend's bed as she was lying in it.

Michael Dwan Hall Jr.,26, is charged with attempted first-degree murder and first-degree arson. He also faces charges of misdemeanor child abuse, and assault with a deadly weapon with the intent to kill.

Investigators say Hall set the bed on fire early the morning of July 16.

They say first he tried, but failed, to set fire to the bedroom carpet.

The couple's two children, ages three years and 10 months, were also in the home, as well as two more people. All were unaware of the danger, and no one was hurt.

A family member said Hall threatened to kill all of them and burn the house to the ground.

The relative said Hall said he didn't care that children were there.

Hall surrendered Friday, and is being held at the Cumberland county Detention Center under a $600,000 bond.

His first court appearance is scheduled for Monday.

Deputies have not said what sparked the incident.
