RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Police are investigating after a person was hit by an Amtrak train between Meredith College and NC State University in Raleigh. It happened around 3:20 p.m. Tuesday.

The area is next to the 600 block of Motor Pool Street. That's close to Varsity Drive and Thurman Drive at the northwest corner of the NCSU campus.

Police said a 51-year-old Maurice Sutton was killed. He was not affiliated with NCSU.

Amtrak said there were 24 passengers on Train 74, the Piedmont, which travels between Raleigh and Charlotte. No one on the train was hurt.
