WILSON, N.C. (WTVD) -- Police have made four more arrests in connection to a 7-year-old Wilson boy's death.
Detectives have charged 19-year-old Donnell V. Hill, 18-year-old Anfernee D. Knight, 22-year-old Kenneth T. Vinson, and 22-year-old Demetrius D. Spells with first-degree murder. The men are all from Wilson. Last week, police announced they charged 24-year-old Montavius S. Davis, of Stantonsburg, with first-degree murder.
The latest arrests come the same day that a meeting was held to address violence in Wilson. A forum was held at the BB&T Youth Center, which is just two blocks away from where the boy was killed.
Kamari Jones was shot around 10 p.m. July 23 in the 400 block of Parkview Street. A bullet hit him while he was inside his home playing.
"He was at home playing his video games...something that my son does each and every day. So that hit me so hard. Literally, it shook my whole world," said Youth Pastor Freddie Williams.
Williams felt compelled to hold a community meeting pushing for an end to violence. The senseless killing has left people in Wilson reeling.
"There's a lot of people that's heartbroken. A lot of people that's angry," said Williams.
Williams can only hope a similar shooting doesn't happen again, and that he won't have to come to another mother's aide to help her grieve, mourn and cope with the unimaginable pain of burying a child.
"Children are supposed to be innocent and should never be involved in these types of situations, and literally what happened was his life was taken based upon some situations he had nothing to do with," said Williams. "Hopefully [we can] start more programs for the young people and hopefully we can curb some of this violence all over our cities."
Williams has been in close contact with Jones' mom. He tells ABC11 she is encouraged and pleased that a community meeting was held to address violence in the city.
The men arrested are being held in jail without bond. Police will not say if they're searching for any more suspects.
