CHARLOTTE (WTVD) -- Military jets were spotted Monday flying low over Huntersville, uptown Charlotte, and Bank of America Stadium where the Carolina Panthers play.

Four A-10C Thunderbolt II's from the 74th Fighter Squadron at Moody Air Force Base took off from Charlotte Douglas International Airport at 11:30 a.m. Monday and flew over the Carolina Panthers stadium at low altitude, U.S. Air Force officials said.

Charlotte airport officials told WSOC earlier Monday that jets were practicing flyovers for the stadium, but Air Force officials said that wasn't the case. They said the pilots were doing routine navigation training instead.

Panthers Coach Ron Rivera said the team was startled by the flyover.
