Mother allegedly forced son to steal
Police say Raleigh woman made 12-year-old steal beer and other items from Walmart.

GARNER, N.C. (WTVD) -- A Raleigh mother is facing charges after police say she forced her 12-year-old son to steal.

Garner police said Suzanne Chavis loaded 13 pieces of clothing into her son's backpack at the Walmart on Fayetteville Road Monday before forcing her son to leave the store.

According to an arrest warrant, Chavis also made her son push a shopping cart with diapers and a case of beer out of the store without paying for it.

The 36-year-old mother also had three of her other children with her at the time. Their ages have not been released.

Chavis is charged with misdemeanor larceny and contributing to the delinquency of a juvenile and was placed in jail under a $2,000 bond.

Tuesday afternoon she faced a judge who told her that she should cooperate with Child Protective Services if they should get involved.

Police told ABC11 that a relative picked up the four children who were with Chavis after she was arrested Monday.

It's not clear if that family member will be allowed to keep the children.
