Pregnant woman and baby in Gastonia crash die

GASTONIA, N.C. (WTVD) -- A baby that was saved after a crash in Gastonia has died at the hospital.

Officials say the infant's mother, Rebecca Williams, was driving when her car crashed into another vehicle Tuesday morning. Williams died at the scene.

She was due Jan. 19.

A North Carolina state trooper and nurse performed CPR to keep oxygen to the baby until EMS arrived. The infant was delivered by C-section, but he didn't make it through the night.

The father was able to hold the baby before he died.
