WAKE FOREST, N.C. (WTVD) -- A mother in a car with "weapons and drugs" and "known criminals" tried to hide marijuana by giving her 7-year-old son a bag of pot, according to an arrest warrant filed by Wake Forest police overnight.
Alicia Grenard of Granville County has been charged with child abuse, contributing to the delinquency of a minor, and possession of marijuana. All the charges are misdemeanors.
A spokesman for the Town of Wake Forest said a police officer, who was directing traffic for another officer who had made a traffic stop just after midnight Friday, happened to smell marijuana coming from a car as it passed by the scene.
Court documents revealed the basis for the delinquency charge stemmed from the officer reporting that Grenard was spotted passing several grams of marijuana to her young son.
The basis for the child abuse charge, according to the arrest warrant, was that Grenard "did allow child to be in close proximity of a weapon and around known criminals ..."
The 26-year-old mother has been released from jail after posting a $20,000 bond. She is scheduled to face a judge in Wake County on May 7.
