Raleigh mother reports men tried kidnapping son near bus stop
RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A Wake County mother called 911 when she learned two men tried kidnapping her son near his bus stop.
Raleigh police say it happened on Brockton Drive around 2:30 p.m. Tuesday. A 12-year-old East Millbrook Middle School student was walking home after getting dropped off at his school bus stop.
In the 911 call, the boy's mother says a red pickup truck pulling a trailer came up behind him. Two men were inside. One of them got out and followed the boy for a short distance before telling him to get in the truck.
The boy ran away and made it home safe and sound, saying the truck did not try to follow him.
A spokesperson for the Raleigh Police Department said investigators usually have a license plate number or detailed descriptions of the suspects when pursuing a case like this. Officers say there were no witnesses and the boy was only able to provide vague descriptions of the two men who tried to stop him.
Milton Suggs does maintenance work on many of the townhomes in the neighborhood. He said he's usually there in the afternoons and sees children coming home from school.
"We kind of do our best to look out for the kids," he said. "Now that this has come, maybe I'll look a little bit deeper."
