Funeral services have been scheduled for a murdered taxi driver who was shot and killed while on duty

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Jose Dominguez, the 55-year-old taxi driver shot and killed while on duty Monday, was remembered at memorial services Thursday at City of Oaks Funeral Home & Cremations in Raleigh.

He was honored with a long line of taxi cabs that followed the hearse.

The funeral home tells ABC11 that Dominguez's body will be flown to New York Friday for another service and burial there.

A GoFundMe page established to raise funds for Dominguez's funeral services says Dominguez financially supported his sisters and brothers in the Dominican Republic with his taxi driver wages and that the family is now struggling to pay for his services.

"It's very saddening and heartbreaking to hear this type of news from a person that was so outgoing, funny, friendly, and beyond kind," it says of the man his friends nicknamed "Papin."

The page says he is survived by his daughter, sons and grandchildren in New York City.

Dominguez was shot and killed at the Hodges Creek Apartments in Raleigh early Monday morning.

Two people have been charged in connection with his murder - 27-year-old Conrad Patterson, of Zebulon and 25-year-old Earl Edwards Jr., of Louisburg.

Fellow coworkers have said Dominguez was being robbed at the time of his death. The Raleigh Police Department is not confirming that but has said several times that police are looking for "multiple" suspects and that the investigation is "progressing."

ABC11 has learned that the Knightdale Police Department is investigating whether Edwards is connected to the assault of a different Amigo Taxi driver.

The cab driver who filed a police report in Knightdale last March did not want his name revealed, but told ABC11 over the phone that he is 90 percent sure Edwards is the person who tried to rob him at gunpoint.

Knightdale Captain Jacqui Boykin said they have fingerprints from that assault that could link Edwards to that case if he is the culprit.

The homicide investigation remains ongoing.
