NC State student robbed at knifepoint overnight on campus

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A male N.C. State student said he was robbed as he was walking on the Rocky Branch greenway trail behind Derr Track Field near Morrill Drive.

It happened at 1:45 a.m. Sunday when the student was approached by two white males who demanded his wallet.

When the student refused, one of the suspects pulled out a knife and swung at the student causing a small scratch on the student's arm and chest.

The armed suspect then removed the student's wallet from his coat pocket and then the suspects left the area in an unknown direction.

There is no further description of the suspects.

Campus police say students are encouraged to take the following safety steps to keep themselves safe:

  • Walk in well lighted areas.
  • Walk in groups whenever possible, especially at night.
  • Avoid distractions while walking, such as listening to headphones or texting.
  • Consider utilizing public transportation or the Safety Escort by calling (919) 515-3000.
  • Report suspicious activities or crimes on campus by calling 911 or (919) 515-3000.
