NC State student robbed at knifepoint overnight on campus

A student was robbed on NC State campus Sunday.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A male NC State student said he was robbed as he was walking in the 1500 block of Hillsborough Street early Sunday morning.

It happened at 2 a.m. when the student was approached by three men and assaulted.

Raleigh police say a knife was displayed but not used. He was treated and released on scene.

The suspects are described as three black males, all approximately 6 foot tall; one wearing a white shirt and jeans, one wearing a red shirt and jeans, and the third having an unknown description.

Campus police say students are encouraged to take the following safety steps to keep themselves safe:

  • Walk in well lighted areas.
  • Walk in groups whenever possible, especially at night.
  • Avoid distractions while walking, such as listening to headphones or texting.
  • Consider utilizing public transportation or the Safety Escort by calling (919) 515-3000.
