Officials identify 2 killed in North Carolina lake crash
CHARLOTTE -- Officials have identified two people killed in a boat crash on Mountain Island Lake near Charlotte.
Officials told local media outlets that a boat carrying four people ran into a rock formation around 1 a.m. Sunday.
The victims were 60-year-old Daniel Schmidt of Charlotte and 29-year-old Jennifer Schmidt. Officials said she was visiting family members in the Charlotte area over the July 4th weekend. They did not know where she was from.
North Carolina Wildlife Resources Commission Sgt. William Laton said two other people on the boat were sent to Carolinas Medical Center in critical condition. Laton said one was a relative of the Schmidts and the other was a family friend.
Laton said Daniel Schmidt was driving the boat when it hit the rocks.
