One killed in crash near Southern Pines

SOUTHERN PINES, North Carolina (WTVD) -- A man died in a single-vehicle crash not far from Southern Pines early Monday.

The Aberdeen Times reports it happened just before 4 a.m. along Camp Easter Road near the intersection with McDeeds Creek Road a short distance off NC Highway 22.

Investigators said the driver was thrown from a van as it overturned. The van then caught fire.

The driver - who has not been identified - was declared dead at the scene.
