One person is dead after a crash Sunday morning in Fayetteville at the intersection of Gillespie Street and Owen Drive.

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- A Fort Bragg soldier - and mother - is dead after a crash Sunday morning in Fayetteville.

It happened shortly before 9:30 a.m. at the intersection of Gillespie Street and Owen Drive.

Police said the driver of a Dodge Magnum was traveling on Owen Drive from Camden Road towards Gillespie Street at a high rate of speed and crashed into a Ford Taurus that was traveling on Gillespie Street towards Eastern Boulevard.

"One driver, on Gillespie Street, ran the red light, and impacted another car in the intersection," said Assistant Fayetteville Police Chief Charles Kimble. "The vehicles probably landed 400 to 500 feet from the initial impact."

The driver of the Taurus, 32-year-old Wadiyah Samirah Northern, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Dodge, 40-year-old Aaron Christopher Barkers, was transported to Cape Fear Valley Hospital for treatment.

A 10-year-old passenger in the Taurus was transported to Cape Fear Valley for treatment, but was then transported via helicopter to UNC Hospital at Chapel Hill in serious condition.

Charges are pending.

SSG Northern was a member of the 403rd Inland Cargo TC, an 82nd Sustainment Brigade unit.
