JOHNSTON COUNTY, N.C. (WTVD) -- An 18-year-old man from Wilmington had his arm severed in a crash in Johnston County Tuesday evening.

It happened in the westbound lanes at mile marker 334.

The Highway Patrol told ABC11 that a car ran off road to left, adjusted, overcorrected, and ran off road to left again. The car then hit the median guide wires.

The passenger, 18-year-old Zachary Hunter, had his arm severed by the guide wire.

The driver, 31-year-old Brad Venticinque, of Wilmington, fled the scene. Authorities are still looking for him at last report. He was described as a white male with multiple tattoos and short hair.

Trooper say speed was not a factor in the crash. They are unsure if alcohol was involved since the driver fled the scene.

Hunter was alert when he was taken to WakeMed. There's no word on his condition.
