ZEBULON (WTVD) -- The North Carolina Highway Patrol has confirmed a person was killed in a fiery crash late Thursday night in Wake County.
It happened around 11 p.m. on Highway 64 eastbound between Arendell and Shepherd's School Road near Zebulon.
Authorities said a witness told NCHP that a 2006 Pontiac G6 was traveling at a high rate of speed, weaving in and out of traffic, when it ran off of the highway.
The vehicle then struck a tree and burst into flames. The driver was declared dead at the scene. Their identity has not been released at this time.
Authorities have not released any details about the accident and were on the scene for nearly four hours investigating.
