Amtrak said a person walking on the tracks was struck by the Piedmont train Wednesday afternoon in Mebane.

MEBANE, N.C. (WTVD) -- A man walking across railroad tracks was struck and killed by the Piedmont train Wednesday afternoon in Mebane.

The incident, which involved eastbound Amtrak train 74, happened near South First Street and U.S. Highway 70 around 2:15 p.m.

Police have identified the man killed as 65-year-old Charlie Johnson, of Mebane.

None of the 58 passengers or crew members were injured, according to Amtrak.

The train was delayed for about three hours during the investigation.
