A bomb threat was made against a private aircraft carrying the Boston Celtics Saturday afternoon while the NBA team was en route to Oklahoma City from Massachusetts, officials said.

Police were notified about the threat around 4 p.m. Central Time, an Oklahoma City Police Department public information officer told ABC News.

The plane landed safely at Oklahoma City's Will Rogers World Airport, and after the players exited, a bomb squad searched the aircraft and determined it was a hoax and not a credible threat, police said.

According to the Boston Globe, upon landing, players were told to leave their bags on the aircraft and proceed to a hotel.

Celtics forward Jae Crowder tweeted, "BOMB THREAT SCARE EARLIER.!! NEVER BEEN APART OF SUCH THING. BUT GLAD WE ARE OK AND MADE IT TO OKLAHOMA SAFELY.!!"

The Celtics are scheduled to play the Okalahoma City Thunder on Sunday.

ABC News' Joshua Hoyos and Stacy Chen contributed to this report.
