Raleigh police barricade shopping center after carjacking and shooting call
It happened at the Tower Shopping Center off of New Bern Road early Saturday morning.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- It was not your average day at the grocery store Saturday morning - a Raleigh shopping center was surrounded by police with guns drawn.

Raleigh Police barricaded the Tower Shopping Center off of New Bern Road early Saturday. Police are not releasing much information or saying what happened.

A lieutenant tells ABC11 they initially responded to a call for a carjacking and shooting at the intersection of Milburnie Road and North Raleigh Boulevard, and officers were then led to the Food Lion in the shopping center.

Officers were seen swarming a White Chrysler Pacifica, that appears to be shot up and has extensive damage. There were a couple of bullet holes on the driver's side of the SUV and near the trunk.

Farrah Lockhart works at a dental office in the shopping center and witnessed the police investigation.

"They had their weapons drawn. they were definitely on a manhunt. So, it was frightening," said Lockhart.

She says officers went to the nearby businesses, told workers to be on alert, and practically shut down her practice for a bit.

"None of our patients were able to come outside. Obviously, we had to cancel our schedule because they didn't want anybody coming in," said Lockhart. "Our patients were kind of nervous. It was chaotic inside because everybody wanted to know what was going on."

Lockhart snapped some pictures from afar. She took one, she says, when a man was taken into custody.

"He was wearing all black, had a bald head, looked like with an Adidas pants on," said Lockhart.

Police are not releasing any information about an arrest. The lieutenant says there are no reports of injuries and that's something Lockhart is grateful for.

"Glad, glad and grateful nobody got hurt, especially being that this is a very busy shopping center," said Lockhart. "A lot of people, with the grocery store and the kids clothing store that just opened, so there's a lot of activity."

Police say they are actively investigating to learn what transpired.
