RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Raleigh police are investigating after gunfire broke out around 5 p.m. Monday in the 7600 block of Brighton Village Drive.

No one was injured, but the gunfire and massive police presence that followed took the quiet Raleigh subdivision by surprise. No one seemed more caught off guard by swarm of police officers than Allen Avery.

"No problems, no gangs, no anything," said Avery.

Avery raised three sons in Brighton, which is the northeast Raleigh subdivision he's called home for 15 years.

"I was looking at hunkering down and staying another 15 years," said Avery. "So this is shocking right now!"

Neighbors describe Brighton as a quiet, calm community.

Several shots were fired. Bullet holes were seen in one of the homes.

At one point, a woman who lives inside that home was treated briefly by paramedics. She wasn't wounded by the bullets. Neighbors suspect she was emotionally distressed by the ordeal.

The situation has Avery concerned too. Ironically, he was on his way to a neighborhood watch meeting when he drove up to the police tape.

"I was thinking the neighborhood watch meeting would be 'Why do we need that?,' but I guess we do need it," Avery said.

Understandably, residents are concerned, but the good news is no one was injured.

One neighbor told ABC11 that there was a loud argument Sunday in the same block. They suspect Monday's drama is related.

Police have not made any arrests yet. At last report, they said they are not certain who they are looking for.
