RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A young father gunned down in the shadow of the heart of downtown Raleigh. His distraught family tells ABC11 the victim leaves behind a one-year-old.

Family of Ramon Antonio Shaw says their loved one was gunned down Wednesday morning on West South Street. Officers found him lying on the ground. The 23-year-old was rushed to WakeMed and there was pronounced dead.

"We're taking it hard. I'm his big cousin. It's just hard on us right now," said Calvin Rogers. "We had another death in the family years ago and it's just hard for us right now."

Rogers says he met with Shaw Monday. They talked about his future and raising his young son.

"We were really close," said Rogers "I'm just taking it in my own way."

Police say just before 5:00 a.m. Wednesday, Shaw and Joshua Jamar Vines were shot. It happened right outside of Rumors Nightclub. Folks who live in the neighborhood say they heard multiple gunshots being fired.

"I heard five gun shots and I listened and then it was quiet," said resident Lesha Cobb. "I heard police sirens and I came to look outside and I saw the cops up here and it was roped off and everything. And the next thing you know they told me somebody got hurt."

Vines, 30, was injured during the shooting. He was sent to WakeMed and treated for gunshot wounds.

The investigation is still ongoing and no arrests have been made.

Police are asking that anyone with information about the incident call Raleigh CrimeStoppers at (919) 834-HELP.
