Fayetteville police are investigating a murder

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Fayetteville police said a man was shot and killed on Sunday night.

Police responded to the 3030 block of Enterprise Avenue around 8 p.m. because of a report of shots fired. When they got there, they found 36-year-old Desmond Deron Smith near the woods behind an apartment building.

Officers tried to revive Smith until paramedics arrived. He was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
