Police say a man was stabbed by the woman he was attacking on Sunday

FAYTTEVILLE (WTVD) -- A man was critically injured early Sunday after being stabbed during a domestic dispute, according to Fayetteville police.

Police officers were called to a home in the 5700 block of Aftonshire Drive just before 3:30 a.m. about the stabbing.

When they arrived, they found a man with stab wounds and performed first aid on him until EMS arrived.

Detectives later identified the man as 34-year-old Duriel Shaw. Authorities said Shaw lived in the 5700 block of Aftonshire Drive where the stabbing happened.

Investigators said Shaw was fighting with 28-year-old Lashonda Generette, of the 2300 block of Indian Creek Drive. Shaw began strangling Generette, police said.

When Generette freed herself from Shaw's grip, she grabbed a knife and warned him to stay back, police said. Shaw allegedly tried to attack Generette again, which is when she stabbed him.

Police said there was a 7-year-old child present during the attack.

Shaw was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where he underwent surgery and is listed in stable condition.

Shaw has been charged with Assault by Strangulation and Assault inflicting serious injury in the presence of a minor. Shaw will be process at the Cumberland County Detention Center upon his release from the hospital.
