911 calls reveal terror in Waffle House robbery attempt

FAYETTEVILLE (WTVD) -- Recently released 911 calls describe the chaotic scene inside and the terror felt by patrons during a robbery attempt recently at a Fayetteville Waffle House.

Police say an armed suspect was chased out of a Waffle House by patrons in the restaurant Saturday morning after he tried to rob the restaurant.

Officers responded about 5:20 a.m. to 650 South Reilly road. They say the man entered the Waffle House and pointed what was described as an AK-47 style rifle at the employees and demanded money.

He was confronted by a patron and they got into a struggle, police say. The suspect then fled on foot while being chased by several patrons. Officers say he was last seen jumping a fence in the area of Highland Rentals in the 600 block of South Reilly Road.

He is described as a black male, 18 to 25 years old with a light complexion. He's about 5 feet 9 inches tall with a thin build and dreadlocks. He was said to be wearing a black and gray hoodie with possibly a red hoodie underneath. He also had on gray pants and a yellow bandanna over his face.
