Police search for suspects in UNC robbery
A man was robbed in a parking lot early Sunday morning.

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WTVD) -- Authorities are searching for three suspects who robbed a man in a UNC Chapel Hill parking lot.

It happened early Sunday morning in the Nash Parking Lot.

The victim was not seriously injured.

According to a campus alert, three men - two described as black males and a third person of an unkown race - robbed the male victim before fleeing the scene.

A warning went out to the UNC community, alerting it to a "continuing danger" on campus. Freshman Justin Moody received the Carolina Alert message.

"It's good to know what parts of campus may be more dangerous than others," said Moody. "I understand there's a risk anytime it's at night and you're alone or even with a small group."

The Nash parking lot is an unlikely place for a violent crime. It sits behind the campus Catholic Center that is located across the street from the popular Carolina Inn.

Campus Police say the main suspect in the robbery stands six feet tall. He has a short afro and was last seen wearing blue jeans without a shirt.

The incident is a reminder about a new safety mobile app available to all students called the UNC Rave Guardian Campus Safety App.

With the help of a timer, it can keep track of your movement on campus, alerting parents, roommates, friends and police, if you don't arrive on time.
