SELMA, NC (WTVD) -- A 4-year-old child died just outside Selma Wednesday afternoon in an apparent drowning.
Emergency workers were called to the 2000 block of Lizzie Mill Road just before 2 p.m.
Investigators said it appeared the child fell into a small fishing or goldfish-type pond behind the home. Lifesaving efforts were not successful and the child was pronounced dead at the hospital in Smithfield.
The Johnston County Sheriff's Office said no charges will be filed.
The child's name was not released.
