Daycare worker arrested for rape of 12-year-old girl
Bruce Edward Rogers, a daycare worker in Raleigh, was arrested for the rape of a 12-year-old girl

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A pastor's son is charged with the statutory rape of a 12-year-old girl at a Raleigh church daycare where he worked.

Raleigh police say happened at Building Blocks Daycare at the Mount Sinai Holy Church in downtown Raleigh. The Department of Health and Human Services said the daycare was suspended in April.

Bruce Rogers, 20, is also charged with two counts of indecent liberties with a child. Rogers' father, Bruce Rogers Sr., is the church's pastor.

"Mount Sinai Saints of God Holy Church of America, operator of Building Blocks Child Development Center, failed to prevent children from being exposed to a safety threat posed by an employee with a criminal history. As a result, the Division summarily suspended the facility's Notice of Compliance to operate Building Blocks Child Development Center on April 10," the DHHS said in a statement.

According to court records, the crimes happened between early January and early April.

Rogers has prior convictions but is not a registered sex offender, according to public records.

The DHHS went on to say the action filed on April 10 required the daycare, which served a maximum of 41 children up to age 12, to close its doors. The Division determined that Building Blocks was not a safe and healthy environment for children.

In allowing an employee with a criminal record to have access to the children, the daycare was "exposing children to a significant risk of harm."
