CLAYTON, N.C. (WTVD) -- Clayton police said a Raleigh man was charged Thursday after a kidnapping, carjacking, and police chase.

It happened around 6:15 a.m. when a female newspaper delivery driver was approached by 33-year-old Trent Creech while on her morning route in Raleigh. Creech asked the woman for a ride to Clayton and she agreed.

The woman became uncomfortable during the ride and told Creech she couldn't take him any farther.

Police said Creech then pulled a knife, and threatened to harm the woman if she did not give him her money and continue driving. The woman was able to stop her car in Clayton and get away to call police.

Clayton police located the car driving on U.S. Business 70, but Creech refused to stop. He then led officers on a very brief chase into Maplewood Cemetery where police were able to stop the car.

During the stop, Creech drove toward an officer who was standing outside of his patrol car Creech attempted to run the officer down. That officer fired his weapon once. However, he did not hit the vehicle or Creech.

Creech then jumped out of the vehicle and fled on foot, but was quickly captured.

At last report, Creech was in the Johnston County Detention Center on a $362,500 secured bond.
