Volodymyr Kocherhin appeared in court, charged in the murder of his wife.

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- A year ago Olha Kocherhina and Volodymyr Kocherhin were living the American dream. The couple owned a home in the suburbs of East Raleigh.

But something went wrong.

On Monday, their adult daughter didn't say what went wrong, but told ABC11 that the home went into foreclosure.

Property records show it was sold in October 2015.

Since then the couple has been homeless, according to their daughter Nelli Kocherhina.

Olha Kocherhina, 44, was found dead behind a Kimbrell's Furniture store on New Bern Avenue early Friday morning after a man with what sounds like a Ukrainian accent called 911.

During the call, the man, who is slurring words, says, "may be dead."

Later an interpreter who joined the call tells the 911 dispatcher, "She's lying in blood."

Nelli Kocherhina told ABC11 that she understood that her parents had been living in some sort of trailer behind the furniture store.

She didn't want to comment further on her parents because investigators have now charged her father with her mother's murder.

On Monday, Volodymyr Kocherhin, 51, faced a judge for the first time in Wake County District Court, where he was told that if he's convicted, he could be sent to prison for life without parole or be given the death penalty.

Also Monday, investigators revealed that Olha Kocherhina died from internal injuries but didn't say what caused those injuries.
