RALEIGH (WTVD) -- There are new details about a police shooting in Raleigh on May 29.

The Raleigh Police Department released their five-day report Thursday on the shooting in Wakefield, and they now confirm what was suspected all along -- one officer shot another officer accidentally.

Police were responding to a call about a man with a gun fighting with his girlfriend.

According to the report, the man they were looking for,Joshua Daniel Timberlake, pointed his gun at one of the officers. So, that officer fired two shots. He hit a fire extinguisher in the apartment breezeway, and he hit a fellow officer in the hip.

Sgt. J.D. Malzahn fired the shots. He is on administrative leave.

Officer K.J. Barefoot was shot. He is recovering from his wound.

Thursday, Timberlake was charged with two counts of assault with a firearm on a law enforcement officer. He remains behind bars at the Wake County Detention Center.
