SANFORD, NC (WTVD) -- A North Carolina DOT truck working on pothole repair was hit from behind on the Sanford bypass Wednesday morning.
It happened in Hwy 421 just north of Kelly Drive.
The DOT truck was fitted with a Scorpion Attenuator - a safety device designed to help absorb the impact of collisions.
The device was completely destroyed by the crash. The front of the vehicle that hit the truck was heavily damaged.
A woman and child in the vehicle were taken to the hospital to be checked out, but did not appear to have serious injuries.
The cause of the crash was under investigation.
