Search underway for two suspected armed robbers following a chase in Orange, Wake counties

RALEIGH (WTVD) -- Authorities are searching for two suspected armed robbers following a home invasion that led to a police chase through Orange, Durham, and Wake counties.

The incident started just before 3 a.m. Friday when authorities were called to a home off US-70 East near Pleasant Green Road in Orange County following a reported robbery.

The homeowners told authorities that two African American men with guns approached them in their front yard, demanded money and forced one of the residents into the house. Once in the house, the homeowner said he was kicked repeatedly. No shots were fired and no one else was injured.

Deputies pulled over the suspects, as they fled the scene.

Authorities said both the driver and the passenger held their hands out of their respective windows, however, as deputies began to approach the vehicle, the suspects sped off on US-70 towards Durham.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol, along with several other law enforcement agencies, pursued the suspects from Orange County into, Durham and Wake counties.

The chase ended with the suspects' vehicle crashing on Highway 54 and Carrington Mill Boulevard, just east of the Interstate 540 interchange in Morrisville.

The suspects escaped the wreckage and fled the scene on foot.

Deputies from Orange County, police officers from Durham and Morrisville and State Troopers, with the help of K-9 units, attempted to locate the suspects, but were unsuccessful.

The suspects' vehicle, as well as other evidence, was taken into police custody.

Investigators say they are following up on leads and the incident remains under investigation. Further details are not being released at this time.
