Seymour Johnson Sgt. charged in Goldsboro DWI crash that killed teen

GOLDSBORO, North Carolina (WTVD) -- A man is facing a slew of charges after he reportedly crashed into a 17-year-old driver in Goldsboro, killing the teen.

The collision happened on Dec. 10 around 11:30 p.m. on S. George Street near Carver Boulevard. Officers said both cars had significant damage.

Authorities identified the drivers as 47-year-old Hector Soler of Laredo Drive in Goldsboro and 17-year-old Johny Robert Watson, of Seven Springs.

The Goldsboro News-Argus reports Soler is a sergeant at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base.

Watson was taken to Wayne Memorial Hospital with severe head injuries. He was then airlifted to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville, NC.

Watson also had a passenger, Madison Grey Mooring, who was not injured in the crash.

Soler was arrested on Dec. 11 and charged with DWI, failure to reduce speed, and felony serious injury by vehicle. He received a $20,000 bond and bonded out of jail.

On Thursday, Watson died from his injuries at the hospital. As a result of his death, police upgraded Soler's charges.

Soler was charged with felony death by vehicle. He turned himself in at the Wayne County Magistrate's Office around 7:35 p.m. Thursday.

Soler was given a $75,000 bond and again bonded out of jail.

His first court appearance is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 19 in Wayne District Court.
