Sheriff: Baby buried in yard may have died from blood loss
There are new developments in the case of a dead newborn found in a shallow grave in Louisburg last month.

LOUISBURG, N.C. (WTVD) -- The Franklin County sheriff says preliminary autopsy results show a baby girl found buried in a Louisburg yard may have died from blood loss.

Sheriff Jerry Jones says it may have been because the baby's umbilical cord was cut too close, but the sheriff also says the medical examiner may never be able to find the exact cause of death.

Investigators say the 16 year-old mother gave birth to the 8.5 pound girl on June 29.

After receiving a tip, deputies later found the infant buried in a brown paper bag in a shallow grave.

The district attorney wants the final autopsy report before determining whether charges should be filed.

Investigators plan to meet with the D.A. next week.
